From a few conversations regarding this new club night… It is clear that a lot of students seem hesitant and think it a bad idea, yet never tried a Silent Disco. So with this in mind. This event is (For one night only) a Free entry event.

First event completed!
Let the build up commence for 20th Feb
With the first event in the books – A few lessons learned and one minor issue to resolve. I just wanted to provide a few updates on the next event.
Firstly – Thanks to everyone who took a chance on the night. Hope you all had fun! (feedback has been mostly positive!)
Second – It’s hard to justify a price for a night out at £10 per head. I know especially in the current economy that whilst it doesn’t appear expensive that it might be out of range of most people. So for one night only – I’m currently thinking of ways to implement a lesser charge for the next event. There’s a few reasons.
- Most people feedback that they don’t know what a Silent Disco is.
- Most people in the SU are indeed Students and well – if they were given the option of free entry versus paid entry – Free entry wins every time lol. BUT this isn’t a Union organised night, and as such bills still need to be paid. Also – Headsets ain’t free. Getting a second DJ isn’t free. Hiring the room isn’t free. So I can’t just go “Free entry” and expect to be able to also pay the folk who DJ on the night.
So with that in mind. Next event could be £8 for general entry, £6 if you are a student. Just need to work out the best practice for advanced entry which might take a while so this event will most likely be charged at the door on the night instead of it being a ticketed event.
First event coming up!

What is a Silent Disco?
A rundown for those who don’t know…
In essence, a Silent disco is normally found in a tent at a festival. If you ever walked into one without headphones, What will you be greeted with? People with headsets on who will be shuffling, dancing, and sometimes singing along to their favourite song – Because the music they are listening to is coming from the headphones provided at the event. This means that the room is otherwise quiet enough to have a pleasent chat – so no shouting at each other. And the volume of music is not there to cause sore throats at the end of the night… Unless you were singing all night long!
How it works is that each controller instead of going through a speaker system is going through a transmitter. This transmitter will send out what is being played via an FM signal through a preset channel.
The headsets can change channels just by the press of a button. This allows you to jump between the 3 preset channels and listen in to each channel. So, say for example Channel 1 isn’t playing a song you like? Change the channel and discover what Channel 2 or 3 might have instead! You’re not restricted to 1 channel all night long. And if you find a groovy beat or an absolute banger of a tune you can always tell your friends to join in!
The noise level coming from the headsets can also be controlled by a flick switch – Too quiet? – Flick it up a few times. Too loud?, flick it the opposite way a few times, until you find the audio level you are happy with.
If you have any questions, queries or even just want to suggest a music format for the next time round – By all means, Leave a message on our Instagram page – We’d love to hear from you.
